Descriptions of Lab Equipment

The IDL consists of two rooms, the main room and the project room, and contains the following equipment:

Research Workstations

  • Three Dell Dimension 8200 Pentium 4, 2.0GHz PCs, 2GB RAM, 40GB hard disks, CDRW drive, 64MB nVidia GeForce4 AGP graphics card, 10/100Mb ethernet card, 18" flat panel monitor, multimedia sound and speakers. All are running Windows 2000 with all the same software as in the SILS lab.

  • One Dell Optiplex GX 240 PCs (Pentium 4 running at 1.5GHz, 1GB RAM, ATI RAGE Pro AGP Graphics adapter, and 40GB hard disk, 10/100Mb Ethernet, 17" flat panel display and DVD-R drive.

Eye Tracking Station

Eyetracker Station

  • Command station: Dell Optiplex GX240 Pentium 4 PC running at 1.5GHz, 1GB RAM, ATI RAGE Pro AGP Graphics adapter, 40GB hard disk, 10/100Mb Ethernet, 15" flat panel display, Windows XP. This machine interfaces with the eye and head tracker and contains all the software for conducting eye tracking studies
  • Subject station: Dell Pentium II 400MHz PC, 256MB RAM, 9GB hard disk, CDROM drive, internal zip drive, SCSI adapter, ATI 3D Rage Pro 8MB AGP graphics card, 10/100Mb ethernet card, 19" monitor, multimedia sound and speakers. Windows 2000, SILS Lab Software Setup. These machines were donated by Intel
  • ASL Model 5000 Eye Tracker Control Unit
  • Flock of Birds Head tracker electronics unit, magnetic transmitter, head mounted sensor & halo
  • Remote scene camera (Costas)
  • Pan/Tilt optics module (Sony video camera)
  • A pair of black and white video monitors for (Eye monitor and scene monitor)
  • TView Gold Video Scan Converter (resolution up to 1024x768 in 32 million colors, replaces remote scene camera)

Digital Video Station


  • Macintosh G4 1.0GHz Workstation, running OS 10.2.6, 1GB RAM, 2x80GB internal hard disks, 2x140GB external firewire hard disks, DVD-R drive, ADVC-100 analog to digital converter
  • Final Cut Pro 3.0 for Macintosh
  • Media Cleaner 5.0 for Macintosh

  • Dell Precision Work Station 530, 1GB RAM, 101GB 3-disk RAID array, nVidia Quadro Pro II AGP video adapter, 10/100Mb ethernet card, 19" monitor, multimedia sound and speakers, Windows 2000. 
  • DV500 Mpeg encoding board
  • Sony SV-2000 Video Cassette Recorder
  • Sony RM-250 video editing controller
  • Adobe Premiere 6.0 Software
